Thursday, September 10th was World Suicide Prevention Day. The Suicide Prevention Council of Waterloo Region held their annual meeting on this day and asked our President Bob Gray to be the key note speaker. Bob and Smitty’s were proud to be asked for this honour.
Bob spoke eloquently on the human condition and how emotions can affect our lives, including his. The Suicide Prevention council along with guests from the area, the Police and Fire chiefs all thanked him for his heartfelt words. It was a very moving experience for everyone.
Lani Lorenz and Kat Baldwin partook in the final ceremony of releasing butterflies. With Lauri Shaw in our minds and the loss of her brother, which was the catalyst of Smitty’s partication in suicide prevention, they released a butterfly in Mark’s honour.
Smitty’s will be holding our 2nd Annual fund raiser for Suicide Prevention again in May 2016. Look out for this event and make sure to come join us.
