We have had to remain indoors much more than usual this year and now that the winter season is just around the corner, remaining indoors is going to continue to be the norm. As you've remained indoors, there is likely a room you have gravitated towards the most: the living room. Your living room is what helps you relax at the end of the day, it helps to relieve your stress as you curl up on a comfortable sofa to read a book or watch a good movie.

Nothing says "cozy" and "stress-free" quite like comfortable living room furniture. Your living room furniture should invite your family to gather and enjoy each other’s company or to enjoy family movie night. We don’t always think about it, but one of the most important pieces of living room furniture is your entertainment center. Regardless of the size of your TV, the entertainment center can be what ties your living space together while providing a clever storage solution.

Here are some features to keep in mind while browsing for a new entertainment center:

1. Bring Out The Measuring Tape

First things first; you'll want to measure your TV’s dimensions so you can shop for the right size for your new entertainment center. The measurements will not just include the screen, it will include the entire TV - height, width, and depth. Once that is determined, you'll be able to take into consideration the wall space, the size of the entire room, and how much space will be left on each side of the TV once you have an entertainment center set up.

2. Consider The Type Of Entertainment Center

There are many different types of entertainment centers to choose from such as wall units, ones with shelves/bookshelves, ones with cabinets, ones that hide your TV when not in use, large horizontal centers, large vertical centers, and more. Your particular needs will depend on which style of entertainment center would be best suited for your room, and from there, you can determine the colour, shape and design.

Palliser’s Bravo Unit is a great example of an entertainment unit with multiple functions. It features illuminated shelves, has drawers for extra storage and a functional cabinet.

3. Do You Need A Storage Solution?

The magic of certain furniture and entertainment centers is that they can store things until you need them again, like blankets, books, toys and electronic devices for the TV. Leaving clutter out in your living room can actually increase anxiety and we don't want that. We want you to be able to relax in every room of your home which is why we carry every type of entertainment center you can think of for your particular storage needs. Better yet, they're all Canadian-made from high-quality materials.

Durham Furniture’s Distillery Collection features a beautiful entertainment credenza that has ample storage space behind cupboard doors. It’s crafted from solid maple and made in Ontario.
