What most people think of as a stereotypical “stool” is no longer accurate. Stools have come into their own and now encompass a wide range of styles and types of construction.

Stools aren’t boring, plain, wooden constructs with a round, hard top. Today, stools are constructed with leather, wood, padding, chrome, and more. They come in varying heights, from countertop height to bar height, and depths — and they are comfortable! Many stools offer a backrest for added support.

Don’t just consider a stool as a way to reach the top shelf, stools are now an integral piece of furniture in your home.

Where Stools Can Be Used

Stools can be used in many areas of your home:

  • Add stools to your kitchen counter for extra dining or homework space.
  • Use a low stool at your desk for a change of style.
  • Place stools at a high-top table for an alternate dining or entertaining arrangement.
  • Place stools in your basement, games room, or bar area to help create a fun atmosphere.

Reflect Your Style

Stools can also reflect different interior decorating styles:

  • Opt for a chrome, backless stool in tight spaces or in areas where you won’t be sitting for extended periods.
  • Choose leather, padded stools for a more comfortable seating arrangement.
  • Select a deeper seat for those areas where you will be sitting for longer durations, like a dinner table or kitchen counter.
  • Pair a metal base with a patterned fabric seat to make a bold statement.

Expert Tip: Stools that provide extra seat depth will help to prevent your legs from dragging and putting strain on your lower back.

Visit us at Smitty’s and explore our selection of high-quality stools — and bring in your measurements to help you select the perfect height!
