While all of these pieces are essential, they often become the sole focus of the project — forgetting another important part of the home theatre system: the furniture. You don’t want to get everything arranged, only to remember your lumpy couch and broken recliner. Will you really enjoy your 4k definition, if you keep having to readjust your back?
At Smitty’s Fine Furniture, we’re all about helping you find home comfort solutions, for every space in your home. You want to build the perfect home theatre? We’ll help you get there.
We’ve written this guide to summarize the essential steps in building an amazing home theatre setup. Leave a comment below if you found it helpful!
Step 1: Understand Your SpaceWhen building a home theatre, you don’t want to cram a tiny room full of chairs and sofas — in fact, too much furniture can affect the acoustics of the space. That’s why it’s important to plan out your future home theatre system.
Pro Tip: You can use our Icovia room planner tool here — or our team of interior decorators to design your room for you!
Where are you placing the speakers for your surround sound system? If you are not investing in wireless, how will you run cables to different locations? If foot traffic will be crossing cables, consider placing rugs over them to remove trip hazards.
Any chairs or sofas should be set away from wall, in the middle of the room to get the best sound. They should be far enough away from the TV to keep the screen comfortably in vision. And if you are mounting a TV on the wall, you should ensure there are studs in the right place!
Step 2: Figure Out Your Budget
Under-budgeting and over-budgeting can both be problematic when building a home theatre. You don’t want to run out of budget right before that last, crucial item. On the other hand, it’s easy to spend money on fancy electronic that you don’t really need — why spend $1,000 on a receiver, when a $400 one will do the job fine? Figure out where your money is best spent.
Plan in advance what you’re going to spend on furniture & electronics. Do research on all the big ticket items and allow some leeway for extra items. Look for deals in advance. Figure out how to get the most out of your home theatre — our team has even written this blog to give you some ideas!
Step 3: Coordinate Your Decor
Measure your space in advance. Know the dimensions of your room and bring these measurements into the store. The staff at Smitty’s will be able to help you ensure everything fits into your home theatre zone.
Step 4: Get the Features You Want
Looking for specific features for your home theatre system? Make a list before you start shopping around for furniture sets. Figure out what’s essential and what can be provided with a DIY solution. Here are some popular features that are worth considering:
Step 5: Talk to an Expert
The final step is the most important! Find someone who has already helped dozens of people with their own home theatre systems. They will be able to make your budget go the distance — figuring out what should be prioritized and what can be added afterwards.
At Smitty’s Fine Furniture, we love to help plan exciting home entertainment systems. Nothing is more fun than seeing a plan realized, so let us help you perfect your home theatre today!
