A commonly asked question for many homeowners is how they can make their rooms look bigger.
Sometimes the space is plenty big, but there is too much clutter, and other times the room is quite small. Never fear — there are plenty of different ways that you can make your space feel bigger than it really is. Here are a few of our favourite suggestions:
Declutter
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again — decluttering is an extremely effective way to create space.
“Cleaning house — both literally and as a metaphor for life — ― Oprah
Reducing the number of items in a room will help you decide which items are adding value in your day-to-day life and which are simply taking up room. Getting rid of “stuff” is freeing and feels great — and it will literally open up space in your home. Get a Large Piece of Furniture
Counter-intuitive as it might sound, when you select one large piece of furniture in your room it can actually make the space feel larger.
In the main image of this post, you will see an oversized headboard — this is an example of how one large piece of furniture can help to open up space. The headboard extends up the wall, which creates the illusion of height and adds grandeur and a bit of drama to your space.
The same effect can be made with a sectional sofa in a living room. As long as you only have one large piece of furniture, and not more, then you can use this technique to create the impression of more space.
Add A Mirror(Hooker Furniture Macdona Floor Mirror)
Mirrors will help to brighten and enhance your space by reflecting light and adding depth to your room. Consider adding an oversized mirror over your sofa, or resting from the floor up onto your wall.
There are lots of great ways to help make your rooms look larger. Come and visit us at Smitty’s and ask our interior decorators for their expert tips. |
