Spring has sprung, the crocuses are sprouting, and colour is coming back into our world. We can officially say goodbye to grey skies and dreary landscapes — which is great because, if you’re like the team at Smitty’s, you are probably ready for some colour!
By now, you’ve probably heard that the Colour of the Year is Ultra Violet. This is a dramatic colour and one that Pantone describes as: “Inventive and imaginative, Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”
If being dramatic or intense is not really your thing, don’t worry — there are lots of easy ways to add colour (including the colour of the year) into your home without making your eyes pop out.
Decorating with colour
Decorating with colour means that you have permission to mix and match different accent pieces and have some fun with decor!
Aside from ultra violet, the trend this spring is to decorate by adding colour, contrasting tones, and a variety of textures to your home. Traditional design rules have gone to the wayside in favour of achieving a look that works for you. It’s not about aligning with Vogue magazine, it’s about feeling good in your home.
What is old is new again — and that means that colours like seafoam, teal, turquoise, and silver are all back and on trend.
A nice way to add some colour to your interior decorating this spring is to incorporate colourful throw pillows, area rugs, and accessories.
Here are a few easy ways to decorate with colour:
Colourful furniture
If you are ready to add some colour into your living space in a more impacting way, we highly recommend taking a look at Brentwood furniture.
Brentwood designs and builds beautifully-crafted furniture using eco-friendly construction. The Delphine tub chair (shown above) is available in fabric or leather, and is made with a certified sustainable, kiln-dried wood frame, and soy-based polyfoam.
They offer an impressive range of available fabrics to choose from, which will allow you to find the perfect colour and print for your space.
Decorating with metal and wood
Another 2018 spring decorating trend is to decorate with wood and metal furniture. Adding a wood and metal coffee table, accent table, island table, or nesting table to your space is on trend and looks amazing.
When you purchase a high-quality piece, (like the gorgeous Hooker Furniture nesting tables featured above), you are adding a statement piece to your space that is both functional and beautiful.
Mixing wood and metal furniture will add character to any space and can be moved around your home for a variety of purposes — from front entryway to living room to home office. This style looks great everywhere.
