The History of Serta

Serta’s proud history began in 1931, when an assembly of independent mattress manufacturers joined forces, recognizing that they needed name brand recognition to compete with emerging national companies. The assembly set guidelines for the products they would make and market, and Serta was formed as a company in 1933

Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Serta developed into a nationally recognized brand, backed by a network of local companies dedicated to the highest quality and innovation in mattress technology. Throughout the years, Serta have delivered many “firsts” — such as the world’s first “tuftless” innerspring mattress.

Made in Canada

Today, Serta operates numerous manufacturing facilities across both the United States and Canada — which means that many of the Serta Mattresses sold at Smitty’s are indeed “made in Canada.”
