For many homeowners looking to revamp their interior, they automatically think they need to hang pictures on the walls or invest in small decor pieces that change with the seasons. Decorating your living room, bedroom or kitchen can be so much more than that. That's why we'll be discussing how to use accent furniture to help decorate your home, and the five most common questions our interior decorators get asked regarding how to use accent furniture to tie their home together.

1. Where can I place an accent chair?

You can place accent chairs virtually anywhere: in the corner of a hallway or bedroom, next to the fireplace on an angle, or beside a window to create a comfy reading nook. We often like to guide homeowners to accent chairs that have a lot of personality in terms of their upholstery design, colour, and shape so they can make a statement, but also provide you with comfort. When it comes to chair fabric, anything works as an accent piece: leather, microfiber, nylon, etc.

2. What is the difference between a coffee table, end table & accent table?

End tables are typically placed at the end of your couch or beside a chair and are perfect for setting down a drink, the TV remote, or table light. Coffee tables are similar, but they have a lower height and can also hold things that you frequently use, like a remote, candles, books, or magazines. Accent tables, however, are designed to fit in any space and are a great way to add your favourite vases or pictures to your room, or even in a hallway. Accent tables can come in many finishes and wood options to match the rest of your aesthetics

3. What accents can I put in my dining room?

Don't think that you can't decorate around your tables and chairs. There are plenty of ways to fill up extra space in your dining room that looks great, especially with different types of cabinets, shelving, or a bench seat that your family can share when it's your turn to entertain. Wine racks are another popular dining choice as well that can come in long, short, small or large styles to match the rest of your furniture.

4. Which types of furniture work best in an entryway?

As soon as people walk into your home, you want to create a lasting first impression. This can be done by utilizing different pieces mentioned above such as a chair, table, or even a bench or small storage unit that doubles as a bench. These are a very popular addition amongst homeowners since they're a piece that is used to tie the space together, but also doubles as seating while you tie your shoes, or tuck away extra mittens, hats, scarves, or shoes. They're available in any style too, whether you're going for a rustic or more modern style.

5. What type of accent furniture can be used in my kitchen?

If you have extra space in your kitchen that you aren't sure what to do with, you can select things like more seating (a bench is always a good choice), or even an accent table and chair with a finishing piece on top, (perhaps a serving stand with fruit, or a vase with fresh, blooming flowers?) You may also want to finish your kitchen off with a cabinet, armoire, or wine rack which can all come in the style and look that you're going for.
